Where does Wollsdorf Leder get its raw material from?
Wollsdorf Leder obtains the majority of its first-class cattle rawhides from the Alpine region and the Central European area - an area renowned for its long tradition of livestock breeding. When selecting our suppliers we pay strict attention to their compliance with environmental criteria.
Are animals slaughtered for leather production?
No. Unlike furs and pelts, where whole animal farms are frequently set up to obtain them, the hides used for leather production are ultimately a “waste product” of the meat industry. Not a single animal loses its life directly for the production of leather.
Does Wollsdorf’s leather production impact the environment?
We develop products and processes in such a way that they fulfil their purpose safely and with the least impact on the environment. Wollsdorf Leder bears the environmental certificate EN ISO 14001 and has been awarded the Austrian Environment Oscar plus the Austrian Waste Avoidance Prize.
What happens to the waste from leather production?
It forms the basis for high-quality by-products in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, fertiliser, feedstuffs and food industries.
The efficiency level of waste processing and recovery depends on the capacity and technical expertise of each leather producer. Wollsdorf Leder holds a globally acknowledged leading position in this field.

What are the advantages of leather over textiles?
Leather is a quality natural product and matches the trend for natural materials. Every piece is a one-off as no two animal hides are ever identical.
What is the difference between leather and imitation leather?
Imitation leathers do not adapt to their surroundings in respect of temperature and humidity. They are also not particularly elastic or hard-wearing.
Do leather covers make one sweat?
No. Leather is breathable in all its processed versions; there is a constant exchange of air and moisture.
How “healthy” is leather?
High-quality, exclusive leather - such as that from Wollsdorf - is very skin-friendly and free from harmful substances. Unlike textiles, leather is particularly hygienic as dust cannot penetrate the covering material. The natural breathability - a significant quality feature - is also retained.
